Fixing the "Missing Pages" error

Follow

If you try to publish your Motion Book, and you get this error:

MigrationException(u"size=320x568, size is missing pages: [u'missing', u'have']",)

here's what it means, and here's how to fix it.

What Does This Mean?

Motion Books are expected to have the same page sizes in each page, except for the cover. The page sizes are optimized for different devices. Typically, you'll want different sizes for a tablet than you would for a phone. When you create Motion Book pages by dropping an image into a project (when it says "converting image to Motion Book page", the tool is creating three sizes for you automatically: a phone size with 16x9 aspect ratio, a tablet size with 16x9 aspect ratio, and an iPad size (3x4 aspect ratio).

When you publish a book, the tool expects all pages to have the same sizes. So, for instance, if you have a 10-page book, and all the pages have only the 16x9 tablet size, publish will work just fine.

However, if you add an 16x9 phone size on only page 8, the tool will produce the error above. It's basically saying that all the pages don't have the same sizes.

How Can I Fix It?

You can either add the missing size to all the pages that are missing that size, or turn off the size that's causing the problem.

Here's two examples. Let's say you have a 5-page book with the following sizes:

  • Cover: 16x9 phone, 16x9 tablet, iPad, store thumb
  • Page 1: 16x9 phone, 16x9 tablet, iPad
  • Page 2: 16x9 phone, 16x9 tablet
  • Page 3: 16x9 phone, 16x9 tablet, iPad
  • Page 4: 16x9 phone, 16x9 tablet, iPad

So, Page 2 is different from the rest. In order to fix this issue, you'll want to add the iPad size. You can do this by cloning the 16x9 tablet size in the selected units dropdown:

then change the size of the copy to be iPad size:

Here's the other scenario, in which you have one page with an extra size that you don't want:

  • Cover: 16x9 phone, 16x9 tablet, store thumb
  • Page 1: 16x9 phone, 16x9 tablet
  • Page 2: 16x9 phone, 16x9 tablet
  • Page 3: 16x9 phone, 16x9 tablet
  • Page 4: 16x9 phone, 16x9 tablet, iPad

Page 4 is different from the rest in that it has an iPad size. In order to fix this condition, click on the selected units dropdown, find the size that you want to get rid of, and click the "eyeball" icon. This will hide the size in the page. There's currently no way to delete it from the page, but hiding it has the same effect.

After making that change to Page 4, the book would publish correctly.
